“Der Freischütz is born out of a world in upheaval – politically, socially and spiritually. The Romantic revolution created a new universe in which human emotions – once meant to be rationally controlled – were now consciously explored and cultivated.” Der Freischütz (The Marksman) Director and Opera Atelier Co-Artistic Director Marshall Pynkoski discusses the era of Weber, and how relevant his story is today!

Watch Marshall discuss the world Der Freischütz (The Marksman) comes from!

  3. The heroine Agathe and her companion Äanchen – video

Comments Off on The heroine Agathe and her companion Äanchen – video

In a brief moment during Der Freischütz (The Marksman) rehearsal on Monday, I was able to sit down with soprano Meghan Lindsay (left) who plays the heroine Agathe, and soprano Carla Huhtanen (right) who plays her companion Äanchen, and have them discuss a bit about how their two characters – who are almost polar opposite in temperament – relate to each other.  From the old way of sense to the new way of sensibility, these women embody the emerging Romantic movement.

Watch Meghan (Agathe) & Carla (Aanchen) here!

Comments Off on The Marksman on the radio

We were at the Classical 96 FM studios this morning on Queen Street East to record the radio spot for Der Freischütz (The Marksman). Marshall is always very hands-on with the spot, drafting and recording it himself. It only took a couple of takes, and we’re really pleased with the result!

    Listen here!

You’ll be hearing this ad run on the station in the lead-up to the show.

Many thanks to the lovely folks at Classical 96 for their ongoing help and support!
