Last Sunday we presented the students from the School of Atelier Ballet in our Dance Through Time program as part of Doors Open Toronto. It was a wonderful experience to see the 25 students ranging in age from 11 to 19 performing in the Ballroom of St. Lawrence Hall.
The Dance Through Time presentation always represents a full year of intensive rehearsal with Jeannette who is choreographer for the entire program. Students from the School of Atelier Ballet will perform an hour-long program showcasing Renaissance Branles, Baroque Court & Theatrical Dances, Waltzes, Mazurkas, Quadrilles from the early 19th Century, Spanish Sevillanas and excerpts from the Romantic ballet.

We have now completed two performances of Figaro and I could not be happier! The performers have lost none of their edge and the production continues to grow and change every time the artists step onto the stage.

I can’t believe it is already dress rehearsal. This is the big event we all anxiously await but end up dreading once it arrives. Is it ever possible to feel well prepared for dress? I dont think so. Nevertheless, we have an incredibly beautiful, funny irreverent show on our hands which has taken on a life of its own.
Part of the frustration of waiting for dress rehearsal to arrive is tied in with the fact that we are forced to do technical rehearsals with only a piano for accompaniment. Our accompanists are spectacular but nothing can save the sound … Read more
