ED Cory Headshot 7793 WEBIn performing in Dido and Aeneas, what are you most looking forward to?

Dido and Aeneas is one of those musical gems that I came into contact with very early on in my studies. I’ve been fortunate enough to revisit this piece time and time again over the course of my career, and by this point I think I know every part by heart. I’m very much looking forward to some ‘boozy’ fun as the Sailor in Opera Atelier’s fall 2016 production!

What is special about performing with Opera Atelier?

My first professional opera role was with Opera Atelier. Being a part of this production of Dido and Aeneas is exciting in its own right, but for me it’s a bit like coming home and hanging out with old friends.

Are you a Purcell lover? And why?

The fact that Dido and Aeneas was first performed by a group of students is testament to the fundamentality of the concepts of loyalty, love, and loss and so it speaks to the human experience. I think it’s for this reason that we as performers and audience members continue to find this work so interesting.

Cory Knight appears in Dido and Aeneas, playing at the Elgin Theatre Oct. 20-29, 2016 as part of Opera Atelier’s 2016-2017 season.
