The truly distinctive feature of OA has to be the integration of the dancers and singers. The productions are always stunning and detailed in every way. The passion that the OA team has for this genre of opera is apparent in every show.
In performing in Medea, what are you most looking forward to?
I am really looking forward to singing with the amazing cast of singers and dancers and of course Tafelmusik. The intensity and commitment that each member of OA brings to the stage makes for a very rewarding rehearsal and performance experience. Being lucky enough to have the opportunity to perform it in Versailles will be an unforgettable experience.
What is it you like about Charpentier and French baroque music?
I love French baroque music. It is intricate, dramatic, always beautiful and passionate. It is more subtle than Italian baroque music but no less thrilling.
Stephen Hegedus appears in Medea, playing at the Elgin Theatre Apr. 22-29, 2017 as part of Opera Atelier’s 2016-2017 season.
